Just weeks after confirming EU MDR CE Mark approval for our novel Intercil Uveal Spacer, Ciliatech are thrilled to announce that Dr. Karsten Klabe becomes the first ever surgeon in the world to have implanted Intercil® at his specialist eye surgery centre in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Dr. Klabe commented: “It is quite a controlled procedure with very very low risk of bleeding. You feel the loss of resistance at the moment you pass the sclera, and then there is a fluid film between the ciliary muscle and sclera which prevents you cutting directly into the ciliary muscle, that’s why this is a controlled procedure. After a learning curve of around 5-6 cases it becomes a common approach.
Whilst it is early days, we have reached promising results without entering the anterior chamber [of the eye] and that makes a huge difference compared to any other approaches that we have now on the market with MIGS or MIBS devices. It is so interesting to improve uveoscleral outflow without a cleft”.
