President of UK & Eire Glaucoma Society, Mr. Andrew Tatham, performs first ever Intercil® Implantation in the UK

Ciliatech were delighted to join Mr. Andrew Tatham in his operating room (OR) as he performed the first ever Intercil® Uveal Spacer implantation in the UK following the recent EU MDR CE Mark approval of the product.

Mr. Tatham has previously commented: “The supraciliary space offers a viable and advantageous target for glaucoma surgery. The Intercil Uveal Spacer exemplifies the potential of this approach, with early results indicating effective IOP reduction and a reduced risk of complications compared to anterior chamber implants or bleb-forming procedures. Because the Intercil preserves the TM, it may be effective even in eyes whose conventional outflow pathways are severely compromised. As the field of glaucoma surgery continues to advance, the need for innovative solutions that balance efficacy with safety is paramount, and the Intercil device may represent a potential step in that direction”.

Mr. Tatham is a consultant glaucoma surgeon at Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion Edinburgh, Honorary Reader at University of Edinburgh and Visiting Professor at University of Lausanne, Switzerland. He is president of the UK and Eire Glaucoma Society (UKEGS) and the NHS Research Scotland National Lead for Ophthalmology. He co-chairs the European Glaucoma Society (EGS) scientific committee.
